Build Kamloops
Build. Grow. Connect. Repeat.
Build Kamloops is a multi-year, multi-phase visionary program to re-establish the city’s prominence as Canada’s Tournament Capital, foster our recognition as a premier arts and culture destination, and keep pace with our recreation and leisure needs as one of Canada’s fastest-growing communities.
Build Kamloops is about catching up and keeping up with growth.
Build Kamloops is affordable.
Build Kamloops is about building community, not just facilities.
Build Kamloops is for everyone.
Background
Kamloops’ vibrant sports and arts communities are thriving—but our facilities haven’t kept pace with our growing population and demand for recreation.
The City has a strong history of investing in recreation facilities, dating back to the 1940s. These investments shaped the amenities we enjoy today. These amenities were significant investments for residents at the time; however, it’s been years since our last major investment, and with continued growth, the need for new facilities is greater than ever.
In the fall of 2024, the City obtained electorate approval of two borrowing bylaws to fund the construction of the Kamloops Centre for the Arts, the design and construction of an arena multiplex, and the advancement of other recreational facilities including a curling and racquet sport facility, an indoor field facility, and an aquatics centre, as well as a seniors centre or community space in conjunction with one of these.
Recent Build Kamloops milestones include:
- October 2025: Mini rink added at McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre for skating and youth hockey.
- Late 2024: Repairs completed on Kamloops’ only indoor soccer dome, extending its life by 25 years.
- September 2024: Grand opening of the Kamloops Seniors Community Centre.
