Upgrades coming to Pemberton Water System

15 February 2023

February 15, 2023 – The Pemberton Water System, located within Greenstone Park in Lower Sahali, will undergo extensive upgrades this year.

The work includes installing new critical water infrastructure, including constructing a new reservoir and booster station and upgrading water servicing lines. The park, which is popular with dog owners and tobogganers, will be closed for the duration of the project—approximately the end of February through November.

The installation of the new reservoir requires removing bedrock from the park, which is conducted through blasting. A qualified blasting contractor will be conducting controlled blasts in the park in mid-March. The blasting portion of the project is expected to be completed within two weeks.

The work will be conducted with the utmost regard for public safety and the protection of private property. Blast vibrations will be controlled and seismically monitored. All blasts will be designed to ensure that no damage is done to any property or structures in the area. Although the vibrations generated by blasting will be kept well below the seismic threshold level for damage to occur to homes and structures, minor blasting and construction vibration may still be felt in nearby homes. Throughout the construction period, vibratory compaction equipment may be in use; therefore, any fragile items should be packaged or protected from damage due to vibration.

Following the water infrastructure upgrades, the park will be restored to its former state with new turf and an upgraded irrigation system.
