Second Information Session Upcoming for Tranquille Phase Three Project

7 May 2025

The City has contracted PME Construction to perform phase three of the Tranquille Road Sanitary Main and Road Enhancement Project from Crestline Street to Southill Street, with work scheduled to begin in early June 2025.

Area residents are invited to attend a second information session on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, in the Sports Centre Lounge at the McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre (1665 Island Parkway) to learn more about project sequencing and traffic impacts. Transit, motorist, and heavy truck detour maps and construction timelines will be presented at the event.

Due to the impactful nature of this project, the project team has been actively engaging with affected property owners and organizing on-site meetings with residents to ensure clear communication and coordination.

Funded by City capital budgets and the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program, this final phase of sanitary infrastructure replacement supports the entire North Shore. While the project is focused on underground upgrades, it also includes long-planned surface improvements identified as a result of work by the Tranquille Road Beautification-Enhancement and Gateway Task Force. These include a 1.5 m sidewalk on the north side of Tranquille Road, two 3.7 m travel lanes, and a 3.0 m multi-use pathway on the south side of the road separated by grass swales.

Phase three will also add drainage, stormwater access, trees, bus pullouts, lighting, water upgrades, and other enhancements. As a key east-west route within the City's Transportation Master Plan, Tranquille Road’s redesign will improve safety for all users. Once reopened, the speed limit between Crestline Street and Southill Street will drop from 60 km/h to 50 km/h.

Previous phases were completed in 2017 and 2021 and featured sanitary upgrades, pedestrian paths, landscaping, and intersection improvements.
