The City of Kamloops has contracted BA Dawson Blacktop Ltd. to upgrade the sanitary sewer main on 4th Avenue between Lansdowne Street and Battle Street.
We are advising businesses, residents, and commuters that the work will recommence on March 2, 2026, with completion expected in mid-May 2026. Construction is scheduled to occur Monday through Friday, 7:00 am–5:00 pm, with the possibility of some weekend work required.
The project will serve to increase sewer capacity for future building infrastructure and provide utility servicing for the new Kamloops Centre for the Arts facility.
TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Traffic, parking, alley access, and transit will be temporarily impacted within the construction zone on a block-by-block phased basis, as crews move southbound to Battle Street.
- March 28-mid-May: The 4th Avenue Project closure area will move south of the intersection at St. Paul Street to Battle Street until project completion expected in mid-May. Pedestrian access will be maintained on the west side of 4th Avenue. There will be no exit from the alley south of St. Paul Street onto 4th Avenue. Vehicles must enter at either 3rd or5th Avenue and return the way they came.
The speed limit within work zone on 4th Avenue has been reduced to 30 km/h as a precaution to protect crews working on site.
All timelines are subject to change and are weather dependent. Road closures will be in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, unless otherwise stated.
NOTE: at a later date to be determined, crews will need to return to 4th Avenue and Victoria Street to replace brickwork. Further details on timing and impacts will be shared as soon as they are available.
Additional long-term impacts will occur in the area of 4th Avenue as part of the Kamloops Centre for the Arts Project. Please visit the project page for further details.
BUSINESS/RESIDENT IMPACTS
Access for businesses and residents will be maintained, but may be temporarily impacted at times during the work. The project team will maintain close communication with all affected properties regarding impacts such as access, parking, and garbage collection.
During construction, dust control measures will be in place, as heavy vibratory equipment will be used. Pack up fragile items to protect them from damage due to vibration.
Expect heavy truck traffic and noise disruptions from construction equipment.
PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS
During construction, temporary sidewalk closures may be in effect. Please obey all signage when navigating the area.
TRANSIT IMPACTS
Transit along 4th Avenue is being detoured to 6th Avenue. To plan your route, visit BCTransit.com/Kamloops.
