Parkview Activity Centre Reopens for Short-Term Community Use

28 May 2025

The City of Kamloops will be reopening the Parkview Activity Centre at 500 McDonald Avenue as a bookable, short-term space for community use. Effective June 2, 2025, the facility will be available for one-time or short-term bookings, providing additional space for community events, programs, and group activities.

This interim reopening follows the City’s recent application to the Province’s ChildCareBC New Spaces Fund, which aimed to convert the Parkview site into a licensed child care facility as part of the City’s Build Kamloops initiative. In April 2025, the Province advised that the application was unsuccessful. Ministry of Education and Child Care staff noted that the program was significantly oversubscribed and that decisions were made based on the priorities outlined in the application process.

“We’re disappointed to not receive the funding, especially given the growing need for child care in our community,” said Councillor Kelly Hall, Build Kamloops Council Select Committee Chair. “We remain committed to exploring all options to maximize the use of the Parkview facility in the long term. In the meantime, reopening the space for community use is a positive step forward.”

The Parkview Activity Centre will serve as a venue for short-term programs and one-off events. City Council has directed staff to explore longer-term social and health options for the Parkview Activity Centre, including child care, a medical clinic, or other uses.

“While we continue to evaluate the potential for the site, this direction on short-term use ensures the facility remains a vibrant part of the community and adds capacity to a variety of programming, whether it is a special occasions or used by art groups, sport clubs, or cultural organizations,” said Sherri Holmes, the City’s Sport, Recreation, and Wellness Manager.

Requests to use the Parkview Activity Centre will be accepted starting June 2, 2025. To submit a request, visit Kamloops.ca/BookNow.
