City Prepares for Build Kamloops Celebration of the Arts Event

24 July 2024

The Build Kamloops Celebration of the Arts is less than a week away, and the City, with its arts partners, is busy preparing for this one-of-a-kind, experiential event designed to showcase and celebrate arts and culture in our community.

“Our team is putting the finishing touches on the event, finalizing the entertainment, artists, interactive displays, experiential activities, and food and beverage vendors,” said Dušan Magdolen, the City’s Cultural Services and Events Manager.

The Build Kamloops Celebration of the Arts is a unique event to commemorate the proposed Kamloops Centre for the Arts and highlight the wide range of future opportunities at this flagship facility.

“We’re very excited to highlight the many possibilities for arts and culture as well as other events, shows, and ceremonies the proposed Kamloops Centre for the Arts will be able to offer. We want to show residents how the proposed arts centre will contribute to a long-lasting legacy that benefits everyone in our community.”

The Build Kamloops Celebration of the Arts will be held on Monday, July 29, 2024, 5:00–7:00 pm, at 393 Seymour Street—the site of the proposed Kamloops Centre for the Arts. Residents of all ages are welcome to this open-air gathering. Entry is by donation.

“This event is presented in partnership with our local premier arts organizations and is only possible thanks to our generous sponsors. Proceeds from the entry donations will go to our arts group partners,” explained Magdolen.

The event will proceed rain or shine, and the adjacent Kelson Hall will be open for any attendees needing relief from the outdoors.

The Build Kamloops Celebration of the Arts will feature:

  • live music, including a quartet performance by the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra
  • entertainment, including a hip hop performance by Let’s Move Studio
  • interactive displays, including a Kamloops Film Festival Experience Zone featuring a red-carpet photo opportunity
  • experiential activities, including an all-ages Musical Play Zone by the Kamloops Symphony Orchestra and the Kamloops Music Collective
  • a public address from local dignitaries past and present
