Community Bike Valet Service (Supplemental 25.04)

Bike theft is a major issue in Kamloops, and residents identify concerns for bike security as a key deterrent to using bikes for urban transport. In March 2024, Council approved a bike valet pilot program. The free service was available Monday to Saturday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, May to August in the Kelson Hall parking lot. The pilot program parked more than 2,000 bikes, with an additional 200 at the Saturday Farmers’ Market from September 7 to October 26. Given the positive response to the pilot program, Administration recommends allocating Climate Action Funding to offer a similar program in 2025 and 2026. Grant funding will be pursued to offset costs.

COST: Operating $186,800 ($93,400 in both 2025 and 2026)

This proposal would be funded through the Climate Action Fund Reserve. There would be no impact on taxation in 2025.
