Corporate Security (Supplemental 25.02)
Administration recommends internalizing corporate security, which was a service previously provided by third parties, funded through a provincial funding stream that no longer exists. Without grant funding, it will be more cost-effective to bring corporate security in-house with the added benefits of providing a more holistic public safety initiative, a more integrated model for strategic response, and enhanced cooperation with local law enforcement on community issues. This corporate security transition would include the allocation of officers, creation of a CCTV monitoring/dispatch centre, vehicles, equipment, and training required. Alternative options would be to spend a similar amount on contracted services without the aforementioned benefits or to cut security services in order to maintain the existing budget.
COST: $542,000 in Capital (2025-2029) and operating costs at $687,900 in 2025 (with ongoing operating costs).
This proposal would be funded through taxation and would increase current 2025 taxation projections by 0.60%. This is an increase of $15.00 on an average home.
