Kamloops Fire Rescue Station No. 6 Staffing (Supplemental 25.01)

Kamloops Fire Rescue Station No. 6 is located at 5300 Dallas Drive and supports fire suppression, rescue, and medical activities in the Dallas and Barnhartvale neighbourhoods. It is staffed by paid on-call firefighters. Paid on-call resources are a key component of Kamloops Fire Rescue’s response model, but there are inherent limitations in their expediency and response reliability, and they have become increasingly harder to recruit. Incident volume has grown steadily in Response Zone 6, and it is expected to receive the bulk of our city’s population growth over the next few decades. Kamloops Fire Rescue recommends beginning planning and construction of a replacement station in Zone 6 in 2025 and adding 20 firefighters in 2026–2027 to permanently staff it.

COST: $2,774,000 in capital costs and $3,097,200 in staffing costs from 2025–2027 (note these expenses do not include construction costs or ongoing facility operating and maintenance costs).

The capital costs for this proposal would come from reserves (Gaming or Community Works) with operating costs coming from taxation beginning in 2026. There would be no impact on taxation in 2025.
