Kamloops Begins Public Engagement on 2025 Budget Process

5 November 2024

The City of Kamloops is inviting residents to engage in developing the 2025 budget and 2025–2029 Five-Year Financial Plan. This marks the start of an important process that balances the needs of our growing community with careful financial planning and fiscal responsibility.

City Administration conducts a thorough analysis each year to forecast costs and plan for the future. In 2025, several key factors will play a significant role in shaping the City’s financial outlook. These include ongoing political uncertainty and elections provincially, federally, and south of the border. The City uses zero-based budgeting to draft a provisional budget each year, ensuring that every dollar is carefully allocated to meet Council-approved service levels, based on current needs rather than past expenditures.

This webpage will feature a wealth of resources from November through March, including key budget timelines, process overviews, documents, infographics, videos, and opportunities to engage directly with the City's finance managers through surveys and forums.

The City encourages residents to subscribe to receive updates on the budget, including notifications when surveys and forums are live.

Key Dates to Remember:

  • November 19, 2024: Presentation of the provisional budget to City Council
    Council Chambers, 1:30 pm
  • November 20, 2024: Public budget information session, including opportunities to chat with Council and senior staff and to participate in a survey
