Rollcall: Introducing the Kamloops Centre for the Arts’ Integrated Project Delivery Team

22 July 2025

The Kamloops Centre for the Arts is being developed using an integrated project delivery model—a collaborative approach that brings together all project partners early in the process to plan, design, and construct a facility that meets community needs and stays within set conditions of satisfaction.

The idea behind the integrated project delivery model is that each partner at the table is an invested owner of the project. The goal is for the team to work together to reduce waste, manage risk, and collaboratively deliver the project to achieve mutual success and maximize savings. As members of the team, the risks and rewards are shared equally among all partners.

The Kamloops Centre for the Arts integrated project delivery team consists of 11 different partners, including the City, the architect, the general contractor, the designer/engineers, and key trades.

This team has been meeting biweekly since February 2025 to deliver a high-performing, innovative, and community-driven facility.

Currently, the integrated project delivery team is preparing to present the results of the validation design for the Kamloops Centre for the Arts to Council early this fall. This update will offer insights into the scope and costing for the project design based on input from each of the partners. The outcomes of this Council session will inform the project’s validation, which, once finalized, will allow the team to start construction.

A key benefit of the integrated project delivery model is that construction on groundworks and foundations can begin while detailed design continues concurrently by the Integrated Project Delivery team. This will allow the City to gear up for a groundbreaking later this fall.

The City of Kamloops has used the integrated project delivery approach in the past with the Tournament Capital Centre Aquatic Centre renovations and, more recently, the South Kamloops Water System Upgrades project. In both instances, the City and its partners were able to deliver the projects on time and under budget.

Fun fact: The Kamloops Centre for the Arts will be the City’s largest integrated project delivery project to date!

The Build Kamloops arena multiplex project will also use the integrated project delivery approach, with a current opportunity seeking major trade partners available now. Once filled, the arena multiplex integrated project delivery team will be announced in winter 2025. The project team will be collaboratively validating the scope until spring 2026 and will start the design process thereafter.

Stay tuned for exciting details on the Kamloops Centre for the Arts to be released in the next few months. What’s ahead:
