Breaking Ground on the Kamloops Centre for the Arts
25 November 2025
Kamloops City Council is proud to announce a milestone moment for our community—the official groundbreaking of the Kamloops Centre for the Arts. This transformative project marks the beginning of a bold new chapter for Kamloops, a vision decades in the making.
Following 18 months of intense planning, designing, and collaboration, the City and its project partners are ready to bring this long-awaited cultural hub to life. “Today, we celebrate more than the start of construction,” said Councillor Kelly Hall, Chair of the Build Kamloops Council Select Committee. “We celebrate the collaboration, confidence, and commitment that have brought us here. The Kamloops Centre for the Arts will be a vibrant hub for arts, culture, and community life for generations to come.”
The Centre is designed to be inclusive and accessible, featuring two state-of-the-art theatres, a welcoming lobby and gallery, spaces for community gatherings, and underground parking on two levels. It will host concerts, theatre and dance productions, graduations, and more, making it a true home for creativity and connection. Features such as elevators to all levels, accessible seating, and sensory-friendly viewing spaces will ensure everyone can participate and enjoy.
This facility will be more than a performance venue. It will be a gathering place where residents of all ages and abilities can come together. From local school productions to major cultural events, the Kamloops Centre for the Arts will provide opportunities for learning, celebration, and shared experiences that strengthen the social fabric of Kamloops.
Following an integrated project delivery model, the City has developed a detailed construction plan with real-time cost updates and built-in flexibility. The budget reflects the maximum expected cost and includes strategies to reduce costs if risks do not occur.
Council reaffirmed its confidence in the project’s funding strategy, which ensures no additional tax increases are required to build the venue. The plan combines previously approved borrowing, reserves, existing funds and operating budgets, and a community fundraising campaign, with opportunities for provincial and federal grants to further offset costs. “This is a disciplined, transparent financial plan,” said Councillor Hall. “Every dollar is accounted for, and the integrated project delivery model ensures accountability and value at every stage.”
Beyond its cultural impact, the Centre will drive economic growth, attract cultural tourism, and support local businesses. The additional parkade will enhance downtown accessibility and future-proof the facility for decades to come.
This achievement reflects years of dedication from community champions, the arts and culture sector, and both past and present Councils. Their vision and perseverance have made this day possible.
Construction begins immediately, with completion anticipated in 2029. For updates, visit LetsTalk.Kamloops.ca/KCA.
