The City of Kamloops has contracted BA Dawson Blacktop Ltd. to upgrade the sanitary sewer main on 4th Avenue between Lansdowne Street and Battle Street.

We are advising businesses, residents, and commuters that brickwork as part of the 4th Avenue Sewer Upgrades work will occur from mid-May to late June 2026.

The project will serve to increase sewer capacity for future building infrastructure and provide utility servicing for the new Kamloops Centre for the Arts facility.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS

Traffic, parking, alley access, and transit will be impacted along 4th Avenue, as crews work to complete this project.

Paving from St. Paul Street to Battle Street is now complete and 4th Avenue has re-opened to traffic!

  • May 19-June 5: 4th Avenue will be closed from Victoria Street to Seymour Street. This closure will remain in effect until the roadway is paved. Impacted alleyways will remain accessible to local traffic only.
  • Crews will take a brief pause to ensure the roadway is cleared and passable in accommodation of community events occurring in the area.
  • June 15-June 26: 4th Avenue will be closed from Victoria Street to Lansdowne Street. This closure will remain in effect until the roadway is paved. Impacted alleyways will remain accessible to local traffic only.

All timelines are subject to change and are weather dependent. Road closures will be in effect 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, unless otherwise stated.

Additional long-term impacts will occur in the area of 4th Avenue as part of the Kamloops Centre for the Arts Project. Please visit the Centre for the Arts project page for further details.

BUSINESS/RESIDENT IMPACTS

Access for businesses and residents will be maintained, but may be temporarily impacted at times during the work. The project team will maintain close communication with all affected properties regarding impacts such as access, parking, and garbage collection.

During construction, dust control measures will be in place, as heavy vibratory equipment will be used. Pack up fragile items to protect them from damage due to vibration.

Expect heavy truck traffic and noise disruptions from construction equipment.

PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS

During construction, temporary sidewalk closures may be in effect. Please obey all signage when navigating the area.

TRANSIT IMPACTS

Transit along 4th Avenue is being detoured to 6th Avenue. To plan your route, visit BCTransit.com/Kamloops.
