Kamloops, BC – The City of Kamloops received a Community Excellence Award for Social Responsibility from the Southern Interior Local Government Association last week for its housing engagement strategy.

The housing strategies and initiatives undertaken by the City help to ensure Kamloops maintains a high quality of life while meeting the challenge of a growing community by securing land for the provision of housing within the community to ensure that all residents have access to safe, secure, and stable housing. The City has undertaken extensive engagement opportunities with various partners and stakeholders, as well as conducting thorough housing needs analyses to identify possible solutions. These initiatives include the launch of the Extreme Weather Response Shelter at Stuart Wood Elementary School, plans to develop modular housing units on both the south and north shores, and the launch of the new mini-storage facility in the Downtown.

“Our staff have been working extremely hard on developing a strategy to address housing in Kamloops. I’m proud of their efforts and am pleased that they have been recognized by the Southern Interior Local Government Association,” commented Mayor Ken Christian.
