The City of Kamloops has contracted BA Dawson Blacktop Ltd. to perform asphalt resurfacing on Columbia Street from 1st Avenue to 3rd Avenue.
The purpose of this project is to smooth and extend the life of the road, and ensure safe driving along one of the city’s busiest corridors.
The paving work is essential maintenance that has been strategically timed to minimize future traffic impacts. Completing this smaller project in 2025 will help prevent further disruption when a larger, more complex infrastructure project, Columbia Street from 3rd Avenue to McGill Road, is initiated in 2027.
While the City recognizes the impact of overlapping work on major corridors, the project team has carefully reviewed the citywide construction schedule and planned this work in a way that prioritizes traffic flow and minimizes inconvenience to commuters.
TRAFFIC IMPACTS
Lane closures will be in effect throughout the work. Please use caution, allow for extra time, and zipper merge.
RESIDENT IMPACTS
Temporary impacts to driveway access may occur; advanced notice will be provided when such disruptions will take place.
During construction, dust control measures will be in place, as heavy vibratory equipment will be used. Pack up fragile items to protect them from damage due to vibration.
Expect heavy truck traffic and noise disruptions from construction equipment.
PEDESTRIAN IMPACTS
During construction, temporary sidewalk closures may be in effect. Please obey all signage and traffic control personnel when navigating the area.
