City Announces Inaugural Board of Directors for Kamloops Community Land Trust Foundation

11 June 2024

The City of Kamloops is pleased to announce the appointment of six community members to the inaugural Kamloops Community Land Trust Foundation Board of Directors.

The City sought community members with a diverse mix of experiences, skills, and backgrounds to serve a two-year term. The objective of the volunteer board will be to establish a sustainable operating model, including strategies and policies for acquiring and developing land.

A community land trust is an organization that holds lands with the aim of providing long-term attainable housing for the community’s benefit. Community land trusts have become increasingly important during the current housing crisis as they help ensure housing remains attainable in the face of rising real estate prices.

“We are pleased to announce this exceptional group of appointees as the Kamloops Community Land Trust Board of Directors. This is a significant and tangible step in creating grassroots solutions to address local housing needs,” said Deputy Mayor Katie Neustaeter.

The recruitment process included a broad community call for interested applicants to submit applications between February 2 and 29, 2024. Twenty-four applications were received and evaluated against established criteria by a panel of five City directors/managers and two individuals from Urban Matters CCC, the City’s consultant in developing the land trust framework.

At the June 11, 2024, regular Council meeting, Council endorsed the appointment of the following individuals to the Kamloops Community Land Trust Foundation Board of Directors:
