The City of Kamloops has contracted Extreme Excavating to construct various improvements to Pioneer Park and 7th Avenue.

Phase Two: March–May 2025

In phase two of the project, Extreme Excavating will be constructing a multi-use path within Pioneer Park. Construction will occur from March 17 to May 2, 2025.

This work, which was scheduled to be completed October 2024, was delayed by the loss of the Red Bridge and Ministry of Transportation and Transit efforts to secure and clean up that site.

Following the completion of Phase Two, the lit multi-use pathway within Pioneer Park will serve to connect the Rivers Trail from east to west along the Thompson River, which was outlined as a desired park modification within the Riverside Park to Pioneer Park Management Plan adopted by City Council in 2015.

Phase Two Park Impacts
Fencing will be set up on the south side of the trail during construction of the multi-use path. Pioneer Park and the parking lots off 7th Avenue will remain open. Access to the dog beach will be restricted during construction. Please obey all signage and stay out of delineated work zones.

During construction, parkgoers are reminded to obey all signage and traffic control personnel when accessing the area.

As an alternative during construction, dog owners are encouraged to use the River Street Dog Park.

Phase One: March–May 2024 | COMPLETE

The first phase of the project will begin in mid-March and will consist of the reconstruction of the Pioneer Park parking lot to include refurbished asphalt, as well as new parking available for both vehicles and boat trailers.

Phase One Park Impacts

Phase one will require a full closure of the Pioneer Park parking lot, including the adjacent pathway connected to the parking lot. Access to the park and beach will be permitted from either the Rivers Trail or 7th Avenue via Front Street or Lorne Street. Pioneer Park washroom facilities will be closed during phase one while utility servicing is being completed but will reopen following phase one and remain open for the remainder of the project.

Pedestrian access to the park will not be impacted.

Phase One Resident Impacts

Throughout the construction period, dust control measures will be in place.

There will be an increase in heavy truck traffic in the area due to construction. Exercise caution in the construction zone and obey all traffic control signage.

During construction, heavy equipment and vibratory equipment will be in use; therefore, any fragile items should be packaged or protected from damage due to vibration. There will also be noise disruption due to equipment on site.
