PROJECT UPDATE
Due to the recent tragic events involving the Red Bridge, the construction of the multi-use pathway as part of the 7th Avenue and Pioneer Park Upgrades Project will be delayed indefinitely, as the work zone for the bridge encompasses the Rivers Trail pathway and the end of the trail is almost directly underneath the bridge.
Pathway work is expected to recommence in 2025. Please continue to follow this page for progress updates.

The City of Kamloops has contracted Extreme Excavating to construct various improvements to Pioneer Park and 7th Avenue.
Throughout construction, pedestrian access will not be impacted, but parkgoers are reminded to obey all signage and traffic control personnel when accessing the area.
As an alternative during construction, dog owners are encouraged to use the River Street Dog Park.
Phase Two: September–October 2024
In phase two of the project, Extreme Excavating will perform watermain upgrades in the area of 7th Avenue and construct a multi-use path within Pioneer Park.
The lit multi-use pathway within Pioneer Park will serve to connect the Rivers Trail from east to west along the Thompson River, outlined as a desired park modification within the Riverside Park to Pioneer Park Management Plan adopted by City Council in 2015.
Phase Two Park Impacts
Pioneer Park, including the upgraded parking lots completed in phase one, will be open during phase two, however, access will bedetoured through Front Street.
Closure of the boat launch will also be required during phase two.
Pedestrian access to the park will not be impacted, however, please obey all signage and stay out of delineated work zones.
Phase Two Traffic Impacts
Road closures include 7th Avenue from Lorne Street to Front Street and Front Street to the Pioneer Park boat launch. Motorists will be detoured via Front Street.
Phase Two Resident Impacts

During construction, dust control measures will be in place, as heavy vibratory equipment will be used. Pack up fragile items to protect them from damage due to vibration. Expect noise disruptions from construction equipment.
Garbage collection will not be affected.
Phase One: March–May 2024 - COMPLETE
The first phase of the project will begin in mid-March and
will consist of the reconstruction of the Pioneer Park parking lot to include
refurbished asphalt, as well as new parking available for both vehicles and
boat trailers.
Phase One Park Impacts
Phase one will require a full closure of the Pioneer Park parking lot, including the adjacent pathway connected to the parking lot. Access to the park and beach will be permitted from either the Rivers Trail or 7th Avenue via Front Street or Lorne Street. Pioneer Park washroom facilities will be closed during phase one while utility servicing is being completed but will reopen following phase one and remain open for the remainder of the project.
Pedestrian access to the park will not be impacted.
Phase One Resident Impacts
Throughout the construction period, dust control measures will be in place.
There will be an increase in heavy truck traffic in the area due to construction. Exercise caution in the construction zone and obey all traffic control signage.
