Each year, the City collects property taxes in order to deliver the service that our residents rely on. Your tax dollars provide clean water to your home (and take away the dirty water), build and repair roads, and fund police officers and firefighters. These dollars are also used to maintain our beautiful parks and provide recreation opportunities that keep us healthy and balanced.

To do this, we need to build a balanced budget (municipalities are not allowed to run a deficit!).

Residents are invited to attend an in-person budget update on Monday, January 26, 2026, 6:00–8:00 pm, at the McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre (1655 Island Parkway). The update will outline significant efforts by City staff and Council to reduce the 2026 tax requirement following a provisional budget released last November that projected a tax increase of more than 10%.
