Access to child care is a growing challenge in Kamloops, affecting families, children, and the broader community. To address this, the City of Kamloops is developing a Child Care Action Plan—a roadmap to improve the accessibility, affordability, inclusivity, and quality of childcare for families with children aged 12 and under.
While child care is primarily a provincial responsibility, the City plays a key role in supporting local solutions through planning, partnerships, and advocacy. This new plan will assess current needs and identify practical actions the City can take to help close the gap.
This initiative builds on the 2019 Community Child Care Planning Program and will provide an updated, community-driven strategy for the future. The plan seeks to clarify the City's role in supporting child care, identify strategies for community coordination and information sharing, highlight advocacy opportunities with other levels of government, and outline specific actions that the City can take within its control.
Help Shape the Future of Child Care
Families, caregivers, and providers will have the opportunity to provide insight and experiences into local child care needs, challenges, and gaps. The survey will be open from September 24 to October 13, 2025. Responses from the survey will be consolidated and used to help inform the action plan.
A hard copy of the survey is available for pickup at City Hall, 7 West Victoria Street. The hard copy must be returned by October 10 for responses to be included.
Early childhood educators and support providers will have the opportunity to provide input through targeted sessions later this fall with the Social and Community Development team.
Your input will help to guide local actions and strategies, ensuring that childcare in Kamloops is accessible, affordable, and quality for everyone.
