"Friday August 9th our family gathered at Hillside Cemetery to inter our mother's ashes. After the ceremony we asked city employee Shane Stringer when the headstone would be placed on the grave. Knowing we had family from out of town visiting for the event, he made the effort to install the stone promptly Friday afternoon, so that flowers could be placed and photographs taken. Our family greatly appreciated the attention because several were returning home the following day. Thank you, Shane, for your service!"

"Yesterday during a June downpour and freezing cold, my mom and young daughter were sitting at the bus stop on Valleyview Drive. A garbage truck pulled up beside them and the worker got out of his truck and handed them 2 toques as they were freezing cold, and some coloring books. Thank you for showing you care and making the extra effort, we love the City of Kamloops employees!"

  • May 29, 2019: Thanks For The Free Transit!

    May 29, 2019 (in-person at City Hall)
A gentleman who was visiting from Winnipeg stopped in at City Hall to say thank you to the City for offering free transit this week (Bike to Work Week). He just so happened to be out for a cruise with his bike on the Rivers Trail and decided he wasn't interested in riding his bike to Aberdeen to where he needed to be, so he hopped on the bus on the North Shore and was overwhelmingly thrilled that his ride was free because he had his bike. He searched for City Hall to personally come in and say thank you.

"Thank you to the City of Kamloops for the wonderful Open house at the Public Works yard this past Saturday. It was so interesting to speak to and learn from the people who are operating the various departments at the yard. We found it all very interesting, from the sign shop to the green house tour. The interactive events for the children were very special and we hope to bring our grandchildren to the next Open House. Thank you for the hospitality."

"Many thanks to the whole city who keep Kamloops looking beautiful! We recently visited another city, and even my 7-year-old noticed how much garbage there was around on the streets and sidewalks. Even with it being the time of year when the snow is melting and showing all the garbage left behind all season, Kamloops looks surprisingly clean. Great job, team!"

"Our “garbage man” (I’m sure he has a much better title) has been going above and beyond for the last 4 years. He has never missed a wave to my young children, even on days he may be behind schedule or they are even hard to see. We aren’t around much during collection anymore but when we are, he still waves. He has also brought my children colouring books and came out to say hi in person around the winter holiday. We would like to say thank you for all the big smiles he has brought."

"The Bylaw officer(s) that attended Mac Island on Oct 20, 2018, to inform people that dogs are not permitted at the park, were very respectful to these dog owners. As a frequent user of the park I am happy to see we as a city are educating all users of the park about this very important city bylaw. Education and communication is key and the one female officer was very pleasant."

"The city’s parks department deserves much praise for the many and creative floral displays that make our city so beautiful.

Some examples of their ability and dedication to the design, installation and maintenance of the many sites throughout the city include: the lawn of the Old Courthouse, entrance to Kamloops Museum and Archives, Red Bridge, Riverside Park, McArthur Park, and on the North Shore, as well as the many pots and hanging baskets throughout. They are always different, always interesting and beautiful.

This year and last, they worked through intense heat and dense smoke. Currently, they are dismantling and preparing the sites for winter. Thank you so much."
