Paving of Fortune Drive within the construction zone is now complete. Side streets and alleys have been reopened, with the exception of Aspen Street at Fortune Drive (contractor equipment storage and laydown area).
The week of July 4, crews will be completing restoration work on Fortune Drive between Oak Road and Wood Street.
On July 6-7 and July 10-12, crews will be completing service upgrades on the east side of Fortune Drive between Oak Road and Birch Avenue. To accommodate this work, there will be some short northbound lane closures in the area.
Bus stops (northbound and southbound) on Fortune Drive have been reopened. Transit riders are advised that there will be some intermittent disruptions during the July 6-7 and July 10-12 service upgrades work.
The Fortune Drive Road and Utility Works project is scheduled for completion by mid-July.
We understand the impact that the Fortune Drive project has had on residents and businesses within the project area, as well as motorists and pedestrians travelling through the site. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as BA Dawson Blacktop works to complete the project.

As the sanitary sewer replacement work on Fortune Drive between Oak Road and Wood Street nears completion, crews will be preparing Fortune Drive between Oak Road and Larch Avenue for paving. The Fortune Drive Road and Utility Works project is scheduled for completion by mid July.
- Wednesday, June 14: Paving (bottom lift) of construction zone (west side of Fortune Drive between Oak Road and Wood Street)
- Thursday, June 15 and Friday, June 16: Removal of centre concrete barriers from the construction zone on Fortune Drive
- Monday, June 19 and Tuesday, June 20: Milling of asphalt (Fortune Drive between Oak Road and Larch Avenue)
- Monday, June 26 through Thursday, June 29: Paving (Fortune Drive between Oak Road and Larch Avenue)
- Early July: Line painting (night work)
During the milling (June 19-20) and paving (June 26-29):
Traffic configuration:
- Traffic on Fortune Drive between Oak Road and Larch Avenue will be restricted to one lane each direction.
- While every attempt will be made to minimize the impact on residents, businesses, motorists, transit users, and pedestrians during the milling and paving, delays and congestion are inevitable and should be expected.
- Motorists should choose alternate travel routes, if possible.
- The construction zone is 30 km/hr, 24 hours a day. Motorists are asked to obey all traffic control devices and personnel.
Temporary road closures:
- Side streets off Fortune Drive between Oak Road and Larch Avenue will have temporary road closures at Fortune Drive (rolling closures, depending on where the work is happening that day). Side streets will be reopened at night.
- Local residents are advised to use Schubert Drive or Tranquille Road as a detour route.
Driveway accesses: Driveway accesses off Fortune Drive will be temporarily impacted when the milling and paving machines are moving past.
Pedestrian access: Both the west and east side sidewalks through the construction zone will remain accessible to pedestrians.
Transit: Several bus stops (inbound and outbound) on Fortune Drive between Chestnut Avenue and Larch Avenue will be temporarily closed. Visit BCTransit.com/Kamloops for the most current information.

On Monday, March 27 and Tuesday, March 28, Oak Road at Fortune Drive (west side of Fortune Drive) will be closed to traffic during the day to accommodate sanitary manhole installation work in this area. Businesses and residences on Oak Road and on Elm Avenue are accessible via Tranquille Road. Oak Road at Fortune Drive will be reopened to traffic each night.
A reminder to motorists that traffic on Fortune Drive between Oak Road and Wood Street continues to be restricted to one lane each direction to accommodate the sanitary replacement work on the west side of Fortune Drive. The construction zone is 30 km/hr, 24 hours a day.
Some side street road closures off Fortune Drive between Oak Road and Wood Street remain in place. Local residents are advised to use Schubert Drive as a detour route.
With the increased traffic congestion on Fortune Drive, we encourage all commuters to utilize the Zipper Merge technique on the approaches to the construction zone. As you see the “lane closed ahead” sign and traffic backing up, stay in your current lane up to the point of merge. Then take turns with other drivers to safely and smoothly ease into the remaining lane. Motorists are reminded to watch for and give right of way to emergency vehicles. Please slow down, use caution and obey all traffic devices and traffic control personnel.

From Thursday, March 16, to approximately end of May, traffic on Fortune Drive between Oak Road and Wood Street will be in the east side lanes (one lane each direction). This traffic configuration will be in place to accommodate the sanitary replacement work on the west side of Fortune Drive.
Temporary Road Closures (March 16 - approximately end of May - 24 hrs/day)
- Aspen Street at Fortune Drive (closed to all traffic)
- Wood Street at Fortune Drive (no left turns from Wood Street onto Fortune Drive)
- Walnut Avenue, Evans Avenue, Birch Avenue at Fortune Drive (detour route via Schubert Drive)
Pedestrian Access
The west sidewalk will be closed to all pedestrians for the duration of the sanitary replacement work. The east sidewalk on Fortune Drive will remain open and accessible. Pedestrians are asked to follow all signage and traffic control personnel when travelling through the construction zone.
Transit
Transit routes on Fortune Drive will be maintained; however, transit riders should expect delays. The inbound (southbound) transit stops on Fortune Drive between Oak Road and Wood Street will be temporarily closed and relocated to outside of the construction zone. The outbound (northbound) transit stop on Fortune Drive at Evans Avenue will also be closed. The outbound (northbound) transit stop at Wood Street will remain open.
Emergency Services
Kamloops Fire Rescue, BC Ambulance, and RCMP will be given priority access through the construction zone.
Heavy Trucks
Heavy trucks are advised to use alternate routes, if possible.
Garbage Collection
Garbage collected will not be impacted.
The construction site is a posted 30 km/hr speed zone. Motorists are asked to obey all traffic control devices and personnel.
