This is a draft design concept for a key opportunity site with redevelopment potential in the Downtown. Peterson Creek is an underutilized natural resource that flows through the Downtown. Its revitalization for wildlife and passive recreation use has been raised by the public and the proposed design concept aims to naturalize a major portion of the creek.
The design concept proposes to redevelop three blocks between 6th Avenue and 7th Avenue, from Nicola Street to Seymour Street. This will include daylighting the creek, which has been a long-term goal dating back to the previous Downtown plan. This section of Peterson Creek would function as a greenway connecting to the Peterson Creek multi-use pathway to create an active transportation corridor linking Sahali to the Downtown and the Rivers Trail. This concept considers the potential for significant land assembly and redevelopment to help form a new Downtown district along Peterson Creek. The district plan also includes a potential school site to address future demand for a Downtown elementary school.
