This is a draft design concept for a key opportunity site with redevelopment potential in the Downtown. Aerial view of a redesigned 4th Avenue between Seymour Street and Lansdowne Street, featuring pedestrianized plaza areas. In this design concept, Victoria Street remains open to vehicle traffic. The surface parking lot between the Plaza Hotel and the TRND Building would be replaced with underground parking with the top deck at street level functioning as a pedestrian civic plaza that can also be used for festivals and special events.
To the south, a proposed public market on the former Value Village site would enliven and provide a key amenity to the Downtown. Adjacent to the public market, a mid-rise mixed-use residential building (~ 6 storeys) would help increase the density in the area and provide retail amenities on the ground floor (e.g., cafes). At the top right of the image, a Performing Arts Centre and adjacent residential tower are proposed concepts for the former Kamloops Daily News site at 4th Avenue and Seymour Street.
