This is a draft design concept for a key opportunity site with redevelopment potential in the Downtown. Kamloops Square, which consists of the 200 block between St. Paul Street and Seymour Street, has the potential to redevelop to include mixed-use residential/commercial and to incorporate a mid-block pedestrian/cyclist connection through the site from the former Stuart Wood school to Seymour Street. On Saturdays when the Kamloops Farmers’ Market is in season, this area is vibrant and the design concept aims to enhance this experience.
The mixed-use residential development concept recommends combining ground-floor or two-storey commercial concrete podiums with four to six storey wood-frame residential above. The residential buildings would be oriented north-south and offset from one another in order to maximize access to daylight and views to the mountains. Greenspace could be incorporated onsite to provide for rooftop gardens and/or other amenities for building residents.
