The City of Kamloops has a goal to be one of the most accessible cities in Canada and to be a model for other municipalities to follow.

On September 26, 2023, City Council adopted the Accessibility Plan 2023, extending our commitment to diversity and equity-seeking communities to ensure that the City of Kamloops meets or exceeds the requirements laid out in the Accessible BC Act.

Review The Accessibility Plan 2023 and Appendices.

Effective September 1, 2023, municipalities are required to develop an accessibility plan and establish an Accessibility Engagement Group, under the Accessible BC Act.

The update to the 2018 Accessibility and Inclusion Plan was informed by those impacted by accessibility barriers to help identify and provide solutions to reduce barriers that are found in our day-to-day lives that may be caused by environments, attitudes, practices, policies, information, communications, or technologies, and affected by intersecting forms of discrimination.

Accessibility aims to reduce any barriers that hinder the full and equal participation of individuals with permanent, temporary, or episodic physical, sensory, mental, intellectual, or cognitive impairments. All residents are entitled to barrier-free activities, whether they are work, play, or other daily tasks. Our objective as an organization is to provide an equal opportunity to acquire the same information, engage in the same interactions, and enjoy the same services as a person without a disability in an equally effective and equally integrated manner, with substantially equivalent ease of use.

The City is committed to ongoing improvements to accessibility. If you have feedback on our Accessibility Plan, or experience barriers when accessing City programs, facilities, information, services, and/or support, we want to hear from you. Our feedback form is available 24/7, and will remain in place beyond the adoption of the Accessibility Plan. We'd also love to hear about the things we're doing right that have a big impact on accessibility. Let us know what initiatives we should maintain or enhance!
