An Election Official’s job duties include legibly registering voters, recording and confirming their identification, and issuing ballots. If you are selected to work, you will be required to:

  • work on Saturday, April 4, 2020, from 7:00 am to approximately 9:00 pm; and/or
  • work on Wednesday, March 25, 2020, and Wednesday, April 1, 2020, from 7:00 am to approximately 9:00 pm; and
  • remain on site throughout the entire day.

As a contract employee for the day, a $255 stipend will be mailed after April 4, 2020.

Job duties may include:
  • greeting and directing voters
  • clarifying processes and required identification
  • assisting with voting location set-up and clean-up, including arranging chairs and tables
  • administering solemn declarations
  • issuing ballots and instructing voters on how to mark ballots
  • serving all voters in a friendly and efficient manner

Required special working conditions:
  • physical ability to work long hours in a standing or sitting position
  • dressing neatly, but comfortably
  • responsible for own meals and beverages
  • ability to work in high pressure situations while paying meticulous attention to detail

Qualifications:
  • minimum 18 years of age and legally entitled to work in BC
  • ability to be a non-partisan representative of the City of Kamloops
  • English literacy and language skills, and fluency in a second language may be beneficial
  • clear printing/handwriting
  • ability to focus, stay on track, and process voters in a timely, professional, and efficient manner
  • patience, tact, and courtesy when interacting with a variety of people during a long day
  • excellent organizational skills and experience
  • good problem-solving abilities
  • ability to understand and follow directions, written instructions, or checklists
  • excellent verbal communications skills to welcome and provide instructions to voters
  • exceptional attention to details
  • previous experience as an Election Official may be an asset
