COVID-19 Video Update - January 29, 2021

𝘼 𝙢𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙖𝙜𝙚 𝙩𝙤 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙈𝙖𝙮𝙤𝙧 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙞𝙖𝙣:

We are in the middle of the second wave of COVID-19 within the City of Kamloops.

Here at the City, we have staff off -- waiting for test results, they're off looking after sick family members, and they're off because they are exposed to other people who have COVID-19.

And we are no different than any other business in the community. We have an outbreak at Royal Inland Hospital. We have a long-term care facility with an outbreak. We have exposures in the schools, in businesses, and even within heavy industry.

So now more than ever is the time we need to reiterate the public health messages that we've become all too familiar with.

- First of all, no non-essential travel.

- Secondly, keep your bubbles small and keep your social interactions small.

- Wash your hands often.

- Wear your mask.

- And, never go out when you're ill. Stay home. Look after yourself.

Several years ago, I was honoured to receive a life membership in the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors. Their motto is 𝘚𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘴 𝘗𝘰𝘱𝘶𝘭𝘪 𝘚𝘶𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘮𝘢 𝘓𝘦𝘹 which generally translates to "𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙥𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙪𝙥𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙚 𝙡𝙖𝙬."

We are asking you to make some sacrifices, but we are doing that on behalf of the greater good. In particular, to protect our seniors who helped build Kamloops.

- Mayor Ken Christian
